Excellus BlueCross BlueShield selects eight Central New York nonprofits to receive its Spring 2019 Community Health Awards

Person to Person: Citizen Advocacy is excited to announce that we were one of eight nonprofits in Central New York selected by Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield to receive its Spring 2019 Community Health Award!

The award focuses on improving the health status of the community, reducing the incidence of specific diseases, promoting health education, and enhancing overall wellness. Winning organizations are selected based on the proposed program’s scope of need, goals, and the number of people expected to benefit from it.

Person to Person: Citizen Advocacy will institute the “Get Up, Get Out, Get Moving” program, which will allow its advocates to schedule physical activities, along with food and nutrition events, with their protégés in Onondaga, Cortland, and Oswego counties.

PPCA will be encouraging gym memberships for both advocates and protégés with assistance for join up fees to support more physical activity. The nutrition component will include classes with a nutritionist, trips to Farmers’ Markets, and stipends to buy fresh produce.
